Baltimore Classic International Food and Restaurants.
It could be argued that ethnic food and classic international food in Baltimore are one and the same thing. The use of the term Baltimore classic international food and restaurants is used to denote international restaurants in Baltimore that offer something above and beyond other restaurants in terms of both the food they serve, the service they offer and the environment they’re in.
The Big Kahuna Cantina offers a superb range of Polynesian and Mexican food. Located on Light Street by the Inner harbor area, the Big Kahuna Cantina is convenient for the numerous tourist hot-spots that are nearby as well as business trade from the Convention Center, that’s only a block away. Decked out with surf-boards old and new; this place does all it can to set an ambience of sun, sand, sea and fun. Not a cheap place to eat - you can expect a three course meal to set you back $50, excluding drinks. Nachos, tacos and fajitas are all in abundance alongside Polynesian fish and meat dishes like Mahi Mahi and Pork. Before eating you can try one of their Tiki Martinis like the Mai Tai - 3 blends of Cruzan Rum and Apricot Brandy with a Grenadine Floater.
Styling itself as the Garden of Soul - Edens Lounge - on West Eager Street in the Mount Vernon district - certainly has style and class above many of its rivals. Specializing, interestingly, in serving Ethiopian food this is a business owned entirely by women from ethnic minorities in Baltimore; and is headed by naturalized residents from Ethiopia and Nigeria. They make it a point of honor to ensure that the service in Edens Lounge is peerless whilst maintaining a strict dress code to help maintain their standards. Tuesday and Thursday nights there’s live music to add a mellow feel to your meal. They also have several themed and special nights each month which give the place a party atmosphere, which is great if you’re having a night out celebrating something.
Now with restaurants in four locations, one of which is near the National Aquarium at the Inner Harbor, the Edo Sushi Restaurant has always been the international restaurants in Baltimore for Japanese food. Specializing in - yes you guessed it -Sushi; not only is this authentic Japanese food but it is also incredibly fresh Japanese Sushi. Being able to take full advantage of the fish landed from the Atlantic into Baltimore harbor means the Sushi here is some of the freshest and best you’re likely to experience anywhere in America. If you’re not familiar with Japanese Sushi I’d recommend trying one of the special Party Platters that have a mixture of lots of different things on them. Having sampled the Sushi here I’d defy anyone to come away saying they didn’t enjoy it; regardless as to whether or not you wash it down with some Saki.
With a high proportion of African Americans in Baltimore there are plenty of Soul Food Restaurants selling good food based on Caribbean recipes. Such places include; The Island Café Bar on Reisertown Road, The Yabba Pot on Saint Paul Street, Shahrazads International Neo-Soul on Washington Boulevard and the small chain of three restaurants known as Tyrone’s Poor Boy Soul Food Restaurant Inc. However, it’s the New Duffy’s Restaurant that probably has the best combination of a great atmosphere and great Soul Food. Located north east of the city center on Frederick Avenue, the pork chops and pan-fried chicken are everything you’d expect for a great festival of international Soul Food.
