Baltimore Fast-Food and Carry-Out Restaurants.
With so many great dining deals in restaurants to choose from it may seem surprising that some Baltimore people still prefer to either grab some fast-food or a carry-out. Fast-food can also be carry-out food, but more usually it will be eaten in a restaurant or possibly a café. Carry-out food could mean something that you grab to eat as you’re moving on to somewhere else, possibly to take back and eat in the office or at work; or it could even be a family meal that you order and collect from a restaurant or order by phone and have delivered to your door. Despite all the health warnings about fast-food and take-away meals; it’s still a fact that we like our fast-food restaurants and carry-out meals; and in Baltimore there are plenty of fast-food and carry-out restaurants serving food from all over the world as well as our traditional burgers, pizzas, fries and hot-dogs.
Starting with traditional American fast-food outlets; there are seven or eight McDonald’s burger restaurants and a couple of Burger Kings in Baltimore, but the fare they sell and the décor of the restaurants is the same as anywhere else in the USA. Although they’re another national chain, instead I’d recommend the Ruby Tuesday on Perry Hall Boulevard, where you’re guaranteed to get a truly traditional American Hamburger for your fast-food meal. There are two Five Guys Restaurants in Baltimore, with the one in the Canton district on Boston Street serving the best hot-dogs, especially if you want one as a carry-out.
As a fast-food, pizza is usually bought as a carry-out. Most of the pizza carry-out restaurants will offer a free delivery service should you want to use it. However, based purely on the quality and taste of the pizza they make - here are my favorite pizza fast-food and carry-out places in Baltimore. The Neo Vicino on North Charles Street not only does the usual pizzas with varieties of cheese, ham and salami; but also offers gourmet pizzas including what they call a Meat Pie Pizza. Although only offering a pizza carry-out service to corporate customers, if you want a fast-food pizza The Brick Oven Pizza Restaurant on South Broadway is the only place to consider. The fact that ‘the stars’ will use this place for a pizza in Baltimore speaks for itself in terms of the esteem this place is held in. Individually prepared and baked, you design your own pizza, making your own choice from the 52 toppings on offer.
Being in Baltimore you have to consider African American food; and a number one contender for the choice of the best Baltimore restaurant in that category has to be the Trinidad Gourmet on East 31st Street. Not only is this Caribbean food at its best - but you can also order it as a carry-out. Apart form the jerk chicken this place does several curry’s including the one the Caribbean is most famous for - goat curry. Whilst there are plenty of Mexican restaurants in Baltimore that you can get a take-away chili from, if you want to try a really spicy take-away have a go at one of these.
