Nightclubs
Baltimore nightlife - bars, clubs, theaters and entertainment.
Whether you’re going out for an evening’s entertainment to a theater or just fancy a night out on the town visiting bars and clubs; being a large city and a coastal port - Baltimore has plenty of nightlife on offer. Most people will at least start an evening out with a drink and there are bars to suit both people looking for a quiet cocktail in a sophisticated bar or somewhere selling beer, wine and spirits with a lively nightlife atmosphere - somewhere there’ll be a bar in this city offering you just what you want.
The traditional ‘drinking’ district for Baltimore used to be around Fells Point, to the east of the city and not surprisingly this is mainly along the waterfront; between the North West and Inner Harbors. However, in recent years the main area of great nightlife bars in Baltimore has migrated west towards the city centre, to a more trendy area around the Baltimore Convention Center and the National Aquarium, which is near the Inner Harbor. With so many bars to choose from the following are ones that offer something slightly different in their nightlife. There is inevitably the ubiquitous Irish Bar - Mick O’Shea’s on North Charles Street, where live Irish music can frequently be heard. The Baltimore Brewing Co, on Albermarle Street, is a popular bar for both locals and visitors; interestingly here nightlife visitors can sample most of the local Baltimore brews. Whilst any of the top hotels in Baltimore will have cocktail bars there are some great little bars that you can go to just for a quiet drink, such as the Gin Mill. The Gin Mill is on the east side of town, away from the hurly burly of the city center, on Boston Street. If you’re staying in the city center you can take a water taxi from the Inner harbor out to Anchorage; and the bar’s then just a few minutes walk north up Boston Street. To the south of the city center, in the Federal Hill district, is the Little Havana bar where, along with the Cuban music, you can enjoy a ‘Mojitos’ - a mint, lime, rum and soda cocktail. Heading up towards the theater area north of Mount Vernon is the City Café - which specializes in cocktails alongside its coffee bar services.
If you’re looking for clubbing and dancing nightlife you’ll find Baltimore is one of those cities that revels in enjoying itself; and you can expect to find yourself caught up in energized nightclubs and dancing venues. One of the liveliest venues is Fletcher’s in the Little Italy district to the east of the city centre. This district has been known to have its troubles in the past, so if you go down this way - keep to the well lit streets. Having said that, Fletcher’s is one of the ‘happening’ nightlife places in the city. Most of the up and coming indie rock bands play there, as well as there being ‘disco’ evenings. More central to the city on Redwood Street north of Harborplace is the Redwood Trust. This is a two storey strictly nightlife orientated dance club - you’ll even have to pay extra to sit on one of the couches! Although, if you’ve had a particularly good pay-day, or are celebrating something, you can hire your own VIP lounge. The Pier 6 Concert Pavilion at the inner Harbor is an open-air amphitheater that offers entertainment and concerts by all the top acts and bands during the summer. Previous performers here include: Stevie Wonder, BB King, Linda Ronstadt, Huey Lewis …. ehe Redwood Trust.
