Slavery shaped America, shattered America and played a large role
in helping to create America. Fell's Point was a center for the
domestic slave trade. This tour tells the story of slavery along
the streets and wharves of this domestic district. Presented by

An interpreter of the 1861 Pratt Street Riot leads a tour of downtown
Baltimore from President Street Station to Camden Station. During
the one and one-half hour tour, participants will follow the trail
of the Sixth Massachusetts Volunteers as they defend themselves
against crowds of Southern sympathizers.

Walk in the footsteps of young Frederick Douglass along the historic
waterfront of Fell's Point. Home to enslaved Africans and free blacks,
a haven for runaways, and the place where Frederick Douglas came
of age; Fell's Point was Baltimore's original seaport and shipbuilding
center. The tour is led by Louis C. Fields, executive director of
the Baltimore African American Tourism Council.
THE IRISH SHRINE AT LEMMON STREET

The Irish Shrine at Lemmon Street is a historic site that celebrates
the history of the immense Irish presence in Southwest Baltimore
City in the late 1840's. Currently under construction, this site
consists of a group of 5 alley houses where the Irish immigrants
who worked for the adjoining B&O Railroad lived. Two of the
houses, 918 and 920 Lemmon St., will become the Irish Shrine and
Railroad Workers Memorial, a self-guided interpretive site that
will allow visitors to look into a furnished house and see how its
original working class inhabitants lived.
