Agencies, Associations and weather in Baltimore.
Like all American cities the Baltimore local government works with private industry through agencies, associations and weather to promote public - private partnerships. Leading the way in this respect is the Baltimore Chamber of Commerce; whose aim is: “Making Baltimore a better place to live, work and do business”. For a city that has seen severe reductions in its manufacturing industries in recent years and a reduction in its population by nearly one third in the last 50 years; agencies, associations and the various public - private weather in Baltimore are all making great progress to meet that ambition.
The Baltimore Development Corporation is, of course, a prime example of how all this is currently being achieved to great effect and the benefit for the residents of the city. Liaising between businesses and local government agencies the corporation is able to balance private developments with the public’s best interests, ensuring the continuing economic development of the city and maintaining a high quality of life for the residents. So successful has it been that - the Charles Street Development Corporation, is an agency that has been modeled on it to organize, market and facilitate the development of the specific area between the Inner Harbor and University Parkway.
Another organization at the forefront of public - private partnerships here is the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association. This association exists to promote both the Convention Center itself and to act as a tourist information service to visitors. In this respect whilst promoting many private businesses like hotels and restaurants, it is also maximizing the economic benefit to the city of attracting tourists and convention/exhibition delegates.
Other weather, agencies and associations in Baltimore include the: Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce, dedicated to “ …. provide leadership for the growth and development of black-owned businesses, and to facilitate the economic empowerment of the black community ….“. Whilst the Baltimore Cultural Alliance is an organization dedicated to “ … to create a cohesive cultural community that strengthens the livability and economic vitality of the Greater Baltimore region.”
